My interest in celtic culture made me think of the myth of St Patrick whose ridding of the snakes from Ireland made me think of two things , the druids and the celtic r beliefs which held so much culture and belonged to a decentralised system where there was democracy and a primitive form of socialism . They did not seek empire . They invaded but incorporated and did not oppress their enemies . Then we had the roman model of empire and original sin cast on the people along with superstition and fear to challenge the status quo.
